Colour Blind Design

Considering those who are colour blind when designing, can be overlooked in the blink of an eye. Color Oracle is a fab tool…

Forever etched in my mind is the poignent scene from Little Miss Sunshine where Dwayne (Olive’s brother), who passionately wants to become a test pilot and has self-imposed a vow of silence until he gets into the Air Force. Discovers in a cruel twist, disguised as an unremarkable moment; he is colourblind. Instantly crushing every future aspiration held in his teenage angst. In the floating of a green letter “A” amongst a pond of red bubbles, there is only grey. The gravity of the realisation breaks his muted existence with a heartbreaking cry of “F-! F-! F-!” thrown into the emptiness of a desolate roadside field.

Similarly, considering those who are colour blind when designing, can also be overlooked in the blink of an eye. Color Oracle is a fab tool, which you can install and control from your menu bar. Make sure you select ‘Start Color Oracle at Login’ from the application preferences to ensure it’s always active available.
